CtrlS—Embracing the Path to a Greener Datacenter Future

Colossal energy consumption

Today’s “connected world” is powered by huge datacenters around the world that consume almost 1% (200 TWh) of total global electricity consumption as stated in the latest reports of 2019. Estimates also suggest that annual electricity demand from datacenters could grow to as much as 8,000 TWh by 2030 under worst-case scenarios and to as low as 1,100 TWh under the best-case scenarios.

Such rapid growth can put pressure on environmental health unless datacenters are designed and operated sustainably. The need for optimized resources and the urgency of environmental protection has led to solar-powered datacenters.

Need to go Green

Sustainable practices are the only way forward to keep the balance between the rapid pace of technology led transformation and environmental impact. Resilient and efficient infrastructure by design and optimized operations drive responsible growth.

CtrlS Brings Sustainable Datacenters to India

CtrlS has been at the forefront of innovation and sustainability. We are the first datacenter in the world to be accredited with a ‘LEED Platinum’ certification from United States Green Building Council (USGBC), validating our commitment to sustainable growth with healthy, highly efficient and cost-optimized green infrastructure.

CtlrS has pledged to support the exponential rise of the data economy with an unflinching commitment to ecological health. The solar-powered data centers are our first but decisive step towards greener earth in the face of monumental energy requirements.

Our Mumbai datacenter is the country’s largest solar plant in façade with 1.3 MW installed capacity generating 1.8 Million units of power per year. Carrying forward our vision to minimize environmental impact and move to zero-emission, zero waste, zero pollution operation, we are all set to build captive power solar plants with a capacity of 200 MW. The first phase of this project will be completed in the next 9–12 months, with 50 MWp capacity generating 75 million KWh.

Here is how we stay sustainable

Energy Reduction / Energy Efficiency

  • Energy-efficient world-class equipment
  • Sustainable energy-efficient operation by effective monitoring of HVAC SYSTEMS

Toxicity Reduction

  • Use of eco-friendly organic chemicals with sophisticated online monitoring and auto dosing system for cooling tower water treatment is built up.
  • COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations) assessment is being made with all necessary MSDS is in place.
  • Secondary containments and spill kit in their respective designated locations

Sustainability

  • Real-time monitoring of water parameters, leading to optimum consumption of water by the HVAC system.
  • Operations team is being trained for best operational practices by industry experts.

Appropriate design, selection, and sizing of equipment coupled with
effective operations also helped us in achieving optimum PUE.
